Smart Card

Smart card is a generic term for a plastic card embedded with a microchip. Smart cards are classified according to the type of embedded chip: memory card, logic encryption card, CPU card, and also classified by power supply: active card and passive card. Active card- contains a power supply device (battery), and even has a screen, keyboard; Passive cards are powered externally. So smart cards require built-in batteries or outside power supply to meet daily use.

A smart card is any card that has an integrated circuit on it. It does not have batteries, as the size of a card is too small to mount all but the smallest of special-purpose batteries.

What Battery Is The Preferred Solution For Smart Card?

In many cases, the preferred solutions for powering such smartcards are ultra-thin rechargeable batteries that get recharged regularly either through the smartcard chip contact pads or from energy harvested through the antenna used for contactless connectivity.
